South Stream Transport
South Stream Transport B.V. is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The company has been established for the planning, construction, and subsequent operation of the offshore pipeline through the Black Sea. When fully operational, the South Stream Offshore Pipeline will transport up to 63 bcm of natural gas per year from Russia to Central and South-Eastern Europe.
OAO Gazprom is the world’s largest supplier of natural gas, accounting for approximately 15% of global gas production. It was established as a joint stock company in 1993, and is partly owned by the Russian state (50.002%). The company’s core activities include the exploration, production, transportation, storage, processing and marketing of hydrocarbons, as well as the generation and marketing of heat and electric power.
Gazprom controls approximately 70% of Russian gas reserves, produces 78% of all Russian natural gas and generates 17% of electricity in Russia. A leading company in the construction and operation of gas pipelines, it controls a 161,700 km gas pipeline network, which transports roughly 660 bcm of natural gas per year.
